I applied at the union local 12 operating engineers in Redlands, Ca the apprenticeship is 4 yrs long. I don’t know where they come up with this six weeks crap. These private vocational schools are like the militarys they make you an electrician in 3 months LOL.

I went to heeavy equipment school……School of hard knocks.. let me tell you. Some of these graduates are the first to be run off the job, because they know more in six weeks than we know in 30 yrs. give me a man who is green and wants to learn how to operate, he will make it much further……. No one can teach you how to be effecient, precise and profitable you absolutely positively must learn than on the job

so much to learn so little time.
listen to the wise learn from there mistakes,
The wise know because we have been there and accomplished everyday takes with quality results.
learn the old ways they cannot be beaten, Cut corners and it will come back to bite you.
They are proven through the true professtional operators, not the time wasters and the cowboys or stand around bosses who think they know how to build whatever without sitting in the seat!

Depends on the job/location and type of equipment and hauling method. Most heavy equipment operators don’t need a cdl. I’m sure some do. My only point was that it’s better to find a school that specializes in heavy equipment if that’s what you want to do. If you HAVE to have a CDL because your job requires it, then by all means, go to a school that focuses on CDL (Not CDL and hair-cutting)…

  5. BigRray Says:

dont you need to know truck driving to get the equiptment to the location

Did you READ what I wrote? Look at Yellow Metal Bootcamp! It is an entirely different cirriculum that goes BEYOND NCCER. For example, look at NCCER’s standard for certifying a bulldozer operator. Get in, turn it on, perform ‘earthmoving’ operations (whatever that means), and you are now certified. That’s what ATS offers! Yellow Metal Bootcamp at NAHETS member schools is SO much more. Just check it out, you’ll see the difference if you are serious.

  7. panhead55 Says:

you learned more than your uncle and 30 years under his belt with your 3 months training??? haha, yeah sure you did….. anyone with a cat key thinks they are an operator now…LOL!!!

  8. dvwart Says:

I have done the research and they both look the same. If you have some info share it! I mean I can come on here and mf stuff but I have no proof. What is the diffrence!! They both look the sam, give the same training, same Cert, so tell us what is the diffrence? And not all of the Ats schools teach truck driving only some. But tell us why you say this is better then that. Only fair!

  9. yellowmetaltv Says:

I didn’t say it was NO good. If you want to be a truck driver, then check it out. But if you want to run heavy equipment, there are a lot of differences! Mainly, Yellow Metal Bootcamp. NAHETS has developed additional incredible training tools not used by anyone but its member schools. Just do the research. The differences are pretty clear when you start looking into it.

I will give you that it did sound a little stuck up. I am a firm beliver you cant teach so called super heros anything. They think they are al better then everyone else. It was a little pompus.

  11. dvwart Says:

So what are you saying? This school is no good? I thought the father of the guy that runs Nahets started this school? am I wrong? Is there any diffrence between the 2 schools? Do tell?

  12. yellowmetaltv Says:

If you want to run heavy equipment, go to a school that specialized in heavy equipment. Don’t go to a school that also teaches truck driving and other professions. The best schools in the nation are members of the National Association of Heavy Equipment Training Schools. If you want to see why, go to NAHETS dot COM….

  13. rhettniel Says:

Do some research… If you want to check out a credible training organization that doesn’t make ridiculous claims and has the highest standards in the heavy equipment training industry, do a google search for NAHETS (National Association of Heavy Equipment Training Schools)

  14. rhettniel Says:

Oh, I just actually listened to the audio of this video clip. Ridiculous! The guy actually said that he learned more in 9 weeks than his uncle has in 30 years as an operator! WHO ARE THESE GUYS TRYING TO KID? Why make such an exaggerated claim? If you believe that, I got this bridge for sale in Arizona, I’ll make you a deal……

  15. caterpillaryellowinc Says:

bullshit! you can’t learn more than a 30 year veteran in just a few weeks.
